“A Festival of Sue: The JDs are on you”.
Penny Ikinger will be playing an exclusive duo with Billy Pommer Jr (The Johnnys) on drums at this show in honour of Sue Telfer.
Sydney’s live music scene suffered a monumental blow in June when long-time administrator, venue booker, confidante and den mother to countless bands, Sue Telfer, passed away suddenly at her Sydney home. Sue grew up in in the halcyon days of Sydney’s inner-city scene of the 1980s. A employee of musicians’ rights organisation APRA-AMCOS for 32 years, Sue was around Surry Hills’ vibrant music pubs and clubs for even longer, most notably as the long-time booker for its legendary Excelsior Hotel. Sue was Sydney music’s most generous person, a champion for the underground scene and a part of its lifeblood who often gave her own time to help others. With the Excelsior’s closure, Sue went on to book at The Square in Haymarket, Newtown’s iconic Sandringham Hotel and Marrickville Bowling Club.
Friends of Sue Telfer have banded together to assemble a line-up of bands to pay tribute to this much-loved lady at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville on Sunday, October 20. Over eight hours and two stages, a line-up that includes Penny Ikinger (with Billy Pommer Jnr), X, the New Christs, The Johnnys, Kim Salmon, Front End Loader will crank up the volume for Sue. More names will be announced soon with proceeds going towards musician charity Support Act.
The afternoon-evening will run from 2-10pm and tickets will be $40 + bf via pre-sale. Bookings will be on sale via factorytheatre.com.au from 9am on Friday, August 16.
Presented by Sydney Rock ‘n’ Roll Alternative Market, I-94 Bar Records and Promotions and The Factory Theatre with special thanks to BHSS for supplying the backline gear.
We hope to see you there!
