Joining Musical Director Mick Harvey (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds/ PJ Harvey/ The Birthday Party) in this tribute to this most esoteric and revered era of David Bowie’s work are Robin Casinader (Keyboards), Penny Ikinger (Guitar), Clare Moore (Drums), J.P. Shilo (Guitar) and Stu Thomas (Bass). Vocalists for the evening will be Kylie Auldist, Dave Graney, Ron S. Peno (Ron S Peno & The Superstitions), Kim Salmon and Max Sharam.

The Berlin Trilogy encapsulated some of Bowie’s most thought provoking work. Recorded with Brian Eno and Tony Visconti, and with contributions from Carlos Alomar, Robert Fripp, Iggy Pop & Adrian Belew, Bowie’s music of the late 70’s evoked glacial images of isolation and loss of identity set against the barbed-wire bleakness of the Berlin Wall.

EPIC BRASS RETURNS! Friday 27th January 2017 at The Flying Saucer Club, 4 St George Road, Elsternwick, Melbourne TIX: www.flyingsaucer.com

Playing the great horn hits and hidden gems of Hunters and Collectors, Midnight Oil, The Saints, Laughing Clowns and many more, Jack Howard has put together an all-star band with a 5-piece horn section to perform an incredible set list. Penny Ikinger will perform as guest vocalist and guitarist.

Jack Howard was the man behind the most of iconic of horn sections – Hunters and Collectors’ Horns of Contempt. Trumpet player, brass and string arranger, backing vocalist, songwriter, Jack was there for Holy Grail, Say Goodbye, Talking to A Stranger and all of the rest. Now with his new show, Epic Brass, Jack will be performing the great horn hits and hidden gems from the golden age of Australian Rock.

Here’s a typical quote from the show’s debut gig in July – ‘Often when you’re expecting something to be great, it doesn’t meet expectations. Jack Howard’s Epic Brass show high-jumped over expectations, then did a triple somersault with a perfect landing. Still buzzing the day after!’

It was a sensational night with a sensational cast of guest singers – Ron Peno (Died Pretty), Sean Kelly (Models), Paulie Stewart (Painters and Dockers), Steve Lucas (X), Penny Ikinger (Wet Taxis) and Fiona Lee Maynard.

SATURDAY 4th FEBRUARY 2017 – THE BRISBANE HOTEL, HOBART

Penny Ikinger will perform solo in Hobart!

Penny Ikinger will play a double bill with Mark Steiner who has been living in Oslo, Norway and touring the globe. This ex-New Yorker is an international wandering scoundrel who one might find hanging out in the shadowy corners of a bar at closing time. A musical vagrant who walks the same decadent alleyways as Nick Cave, Stuart Staples, Leonard Cohen and Rowland S. Howard, Mark Steiner finally returns to Australia for a few weeks down under as of January 2017

“Mark Steiner’s special brand of ‘Lounge-Noir’ will have you reaching for the booze and the ‘replay’ button.” – Swampland Magazine, USA

“Mark Steiner (and His Problems) is a well-known figure in Oslo’s music underworld, and he’s been around in Norway for so long that many assume that he is Norwegian. He is not. This ex-New Yorker is a wandering scoundrel who one might find hanging out in the shadowy corners of a pub at closing time – whether the nearest street sign reads New York, Oslo, Paris, Berlin, Lisbon or Melbourne. A musical vagrant who draws inspiration from the same sources which may have influenced Stuart Staples, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Rowland S. Howard
