VENUE: The Old Bar, 74-76 Johnston Street, St Kilda
DATE: Friday 7th May
TIME: 7:30pm
EVENT: CLAIRE BIRCHALL/KIM SALMON/ PENNY IKINGER
Three of the hottest solo acts from Australia come to the Old Bar, Melbourne. What a line-up this is!
It’s finally time for the well overdue album launch for Claire Birchall’s ‘Running In Slow Motion’ (It Records). Released in the depths of the 2020 Melbourne lockdown, Claire is excited to finally throw a launch party at the Old Bar, with wonderful special guests- non other than Kim Salmon and Penny Ikinger!
A multi-instrumentalist, devotedly DIY, Claire wrote, played and recorded the entire record herself, with the exception of the stark ‘Pretty Boy’ which is a striking cover of a Randy Newman deep cut from his 1979 album Born Again.
Claire recently took this new material on a national tour supporting Kim Salmon (The Scientists, Beasts of Bourbon) and was compared to the likes of Jonnine Standish (HTRK), Nico and Lana Del Ray, none of which really hit the mark but it’s interesting to see what people are hearing in these songs. Running in Slow Motion is a remarkable record and unique take on the synth pop idiom. Out now on LP, CD and digitally via It Records.
Special guests Kim Salmon and Penny Ikinger play the support for Claire Birchall’s album launch.
